Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ;
As you are no doubt aware, the Coronavirus is forcing multiple events, businesses, and schools to cancel or postpone all gatherings. It is with deep regret that we are altering our normal services here at First Baptist Church. As you also know, we consistently pray for the President and his Advisors to have wisdom and courage regarding our government. For the past several weeks these prayers have included reference to the Coronavirus. Therefore, we are trusting the Lord has answered those prayers and guided our President in his decisions regarding the gatherings of people during this National Emergency.
Regarding Sunday Morning Service:
We are planning to Live Stream our Sunday morning service on Facebook and via YouTube, at 10:00 AM. We are encouraging people to use this option to avoid meeting together at this time. These services will be recorded and remain available for approximately 30 days. Those who do not have internet are welcome to attend, but we will need to comply with the ruling, made by Governor Greg Abbott. We are requesting those who attend to spread out across the sanctuary for social distancing. We will also record the service on DVD, as we generally do every Sunday, so we can make you a copy of the DVD to watch as well. Be prepared to wave instead of shaking hands, and smile instead of giving a hug.
Currently, we have designated the sanctuary for all church meetings so please enter the building through the front doors of the sanctuary or by the church office. We have restrooms available in the baptistry area and in the Bride’s room.
Regarding Sunday School:
There will be no Sunday school until further notice. However, the BMA Seminary will Live Stream Baptist Expositor Studies each Sunday morning @ 10:00 through their Facebook account, Baptist Publishing House. Live Facebook streams are also recorded and can be viewed for about 30 days. So, you can view this later if that works best for you.
There will be no nursery available during any of our services until further notice.
Regarding Kids First:
Kids First is diligently following State guidelines for protecting children in their care.
Regarding Evening Services:
Until further notice, we have cancelled all Sunday evening and Wednesday evening services.
We are expecting our members to maintain their spiritual lives at home. Obviously, spiritual growth at home should already be a consistent part of our lives. As you know, we have been encouraged regularly to pray over our Prayer List, to study our Sunday school lessons, and to review Sunday sermons. We are urging you to maximize this at home.
Regarding Prayer List and Announcements:
We will maintain our Prayer List and keep it posted to our Facebook Prayer Page. Our plan is also to attach our bulletin/announcements to our website. Be sure to notify the church office of any announcements or prayer concerns.
Our deacons were each given a list of names and phone numbers. You should receive a call each week from one of the deacons. Be sure to let him know of any way we can help during this time.
As you well know, it is important that we do our best to stay on track with our annual budget. So, we encourage everyone to continue being faithful and give as the Lord enables you. We do discourage sending cash through the mail. If you’re comfortable in doing so, you may drop your giving by the office. Otherwise, you may mail it to 210 Philip Street.
We pray the Lord protects us during this time. Gratefully, those of us who know the Lord have assurance regarding eternal life. Be mindful that family, friends, and neighbors may not have such assurance. Perhaps they will become more aware of the frailty of life and consider their own eternities. Let’s pray that our lights will shine before men in such a way that they see our good works and glorify our Heavenly Father. May our trust in Him during difficult times be a faithful witness to those around us.
